CFUW Guelph scholarships recognize stars

Winner of the College of Physical and Engineering Science award for $2,000 is math and physics student Laura Thompson who has had co-op placements as an actuary with Manulife Financial, with the Department of National Defence, and with Statistics Canada where she was involved in the application and development of statistical software for business surveys.
Ella Dawn McGeogh creates works of art from foam, gravel and papier mache, acrylic and phosphorescent paints. The results shimmer like jewels and glow like oil slicks. Winner of the $1,000 award for a graduate student in the Master of Fine Art program, Ella Dawn lives and works in Guelph. Check out her website.
Leslie Stefanyk completed her U of G PhD in human health and nutritional sciences in 2012 on the storage of excess fat and its effect on high blood sugar and pre-diabetes. She is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at York University, conducting research to promote healthy eating, exercise and psychological well-being in various disease populations. She received the $1,000 award for a graduate student in human health sciences.
