The Textile Arts Group met 8 times this year to learn new techniques and work on individual or group projects. Once again the group enjoyed two enjoyable and productive “quilt retreats”, one at a member’s cottage and another at the Creiff Retreat Centre. In September, the group worked together to complete 3 comfort quilts for the General Hospital’s trauma unit. At Creiff, each person worked on her own project.
Regular meetings provided an opportunity to share and learn new techniques via videos and demonstrations. We were privileged to have an opportunity to use Maggie Vanderweit’s long arm quilting machine at one meeting. At three meetings, we watched and discussed videos featuring textile artists, and at another meeting, we were introduced to quilting with rulers (using templates).Twice a year members show and discuss their current projects. We are very fortunate to have a number of very accomplished and award winning textile artists in the group who are inspiring and very helpful.
If you are interested in joining a textile arts group, please contact contact Member Services to discuss the possibility of forming a new group.
