Art Touring Group

Heather Beecroft, convenor

54  MEMBERS  AND GROWING!!!!

We meet infrequently, depending on art events in and around Guelph and beyond.   Members are notified via email of an upcoming visits or events and members often offer suggestions for “outings”!

Gallery opening dates are sent as email announcements and then it is member’s choice as to whether they attend …or not!  Information is often announced at the General Meetings about an exceptional art show, such as the display at the Conrad Grebel in Waterloo by Catherine Dallaire in the Fall of 2018.  In March, a carload braved the winter drive to Hamilton to visit “Arctic Experience Gallery”. We were treated to Champagne and Chocolates by the owner/Directors, Janet McGrath and Marvin Cohen. We learned about the history of Inuit coming to Hamilton in the 1950’s for hospital treatment. This is a well-known and long-standing Gallery for Canadian Art. It was such a good overview of Canadian Art and a real treat, including very special, “real” Norval Morriseau! This also provided a chance to purchase Inuit sculpture.

Our Bus trip to the AGA KHAN MUSEUM [33 participants] was a real highlight of 2019. Our Group also visited the Clay and Glass Gallery in Kitchener and experienced an excellent tour from their curator in the Fall.

One of our fun trips during 2018 was a train run to Toronto to view and participate in a guided tour of the “Chihuly  –  Art Glass Installation” at the ROM and also a visit to the Women’s Art Association of Canada where we visited an artist’s studio[Wenda Watt] .

We are always “OPEN” to new members and welcome suggestions for group travel to Art Openings and Shows.
